Mike Chard, Director of Materials at Unicep, might just be the first person in the world who wouldn’t change places with anybody. Okay, that’s not true of course … but we were delighted to hear him say, in answer to the question of whose job at the company he might like to steal, that he’d be happy with none but his own.
“I enjoy working with people as a team to solve problem,” he explains. “This position gives me the opportunity to do that.” He adds that in his 2 ½ years with the company he’s learned an incredible array of new skills.
He loves the great reputation the company has built for itself, the hands-on nature of his colleagues’ work and the access he enjoys to anyone in the company to solve customer problems. He gets to do work he enjoys every day, and especially revels in watching as others accomplish tasks they didn’t think were possible.
Mike was born and raised in Everett, WA. He grew up working his way through college at Washington State University in Pullman, WA and has been married to his high school sweetheart for 37 years. These days, he spends his time enjoying the bounty of national parks – their next vacation will likely be Dry Tortugas, a collection of islands and reefs in the Gulf. His favorite meal is anything by a campfire or a lakeshore. Spare time? There is no spare time; Mike and his wife are busy fixing up the fixer-upper they bought when their son went off to college.
Before joining Unicep Mike led the supply chain group for Honeywell’s Spokane plant. Previous to that he led the materials team at Keytronic, and the hardware delivery organization at Olivetti North America. Mike has CPIM and CPA certifications.
Mike looks forward to continuing to learn more here at Unicep, grow his skills, and enjoy life both inside and outside the office.
